It may be a new year, but your core values should always remain the same

January is typically a time for making changes – or at the very least, making resolutions to change! For some people, that could be as simple as cutting out weekday chocolate binges (it’s safe to say we’ve failed spectacularly at this resolution in the Shine office!) whilst for others it involves a somewhat more drastic transformation.

We’re all for making new year resolutions, and they can be a very positive and effective thing to do – but some things should always remain the same, especially your core values. These are the foundations on which your business was built, and the golden rules by which you operate.

These values should play a fundamental part in any company’s day to day life – regardless of what industry you’re working in. From a creative agency like Shine, to a high street fashion retailer, and from a global logistics company to a local charity. Any type of organisation must establish what they believe in – to determine an appropriate way to behave, and to help create a consistent and positive brand perception.

We’re unshakeably loyal to our own values – they are the words we live by, the constant thread that unifies and fortifies our work. And it’s these values which ensure we’re all on the same page, allowing us to work together seamlessly as a team, and to deliver the best possible results for our clients.

They look like this, and they all have one thing in common – trust.

3. There is no room for thoughtlessness

4. Attention to detail is fundamental

5. The extra mile is there to be travelled

6. Flawless service is the rule, not the exception

7. Even without the luxury of time, the right results will be delivered

8. There is always, always a solution

By looking at a company’s core values, you can instantly gain an insight into the everyday fabric of the business, and the people behind it – so you can make a decision as to whether or not you’d like to work with them.

As we said before, our own ethos is based on a fundamental trust in people, something which has been cultivated over time. Without trust, relationships falter. And without relationships – well, what are you left with? But by working together, we believe we can produce inspiring and creative work that impresses, surprises and delivers exceptional results, every single time.

Of course, everyone’s values are different – and that’s a good thing. Life would be rather boring if we all thought the same. The key is to remain resolutely loyal to those values as your business evolves and adapts – especially when the new year brings fresh challenges.
